Usage
Wrap the cuff around your right or left arm (upper arm). The lower edge of the cuff should be 1-2 cm above the elbow. - Fasten the cuff. Insert the end into the metal ring and adjust so that the cuff fits around the arm without being too tight. - Position the mark on the cuff over the artery. - Place the stethoscope under the cuff so that the membrane is on the inside of the bicep, where the artery is. - Carefully bend the arm and hold it on a horizontal surface with the muscles as relaxed as possible. - Make sure the air valve on the rubber pump is closed by turning it clockwise. - Squeeze the rubber pump and inflate until the pressure in the cuff reaches 20-30 mmHg below the maximum expected blood pressure (based on standard readings). - Turn the valve counterclockwise to open and slowly release the air so that the cuff deflates at a rate of 2-3 mmHg per second. - When the cuff pressure falls below the maximum value, you can hear the heartbeat through the stethoscope. When you hear the first heartbeat, note the reading on the manometer. This corresponds to the maximum (systolic) pressure. - Keep the valve gradually open until you hear the last heartbeat. The reading on the manometer corresponds to the minimum (diastolic) pressure. - After reading the readings, release the air from the cuff completely. If you are unsure of the readings, wait 3-4 minutes before repeating the measurement. - After you have finished the measurement, return the pressure gauge to its case.
