It is designed to quantitatively determine cocaine metabolites, benzoylecgonine, in human urine at a cut-off level of 300 ng/ml in 3 minutes.
The cocaine test is based on the principle of a specific immunochemical reaction between antibodies and antigens to analyze specific components in human urine samples.
- The quantitative analysis is based on the competition antibody binding between a drug compound and free drug, which be present in the urine sample being tested
- When a narcotic substance is present in the urine sample, it competes with the narcotic substance compound the limited amount of antibody-colorant compound
- When the amount of drug is equal to or greater than 300 ng/mg, it prevent the binding of free drug to antibodies
- Therefore, in a positive urine sample, no colored line appear in the test zone and there be a positive result, while the presence of a colored line indicates a negative result
- The test has a control line that serves as a procedural control
It should always appear in the control zone if the test is stored under good conditions and performed correctly.
Cocaine is initially excreted in the urine as benzoylecgonine for a short period.
